Can these races get any better than last night? We had 85 athletes head out on an interval start to spread them out on the trails. And the snow! The clear crisp weather is keeping the snow in excellent shape, and Kelly’s grooming provided a perfect surface for our event. Kudo’s to the Cypress Nordic team!
There was a significant show of hands for perfect scores on the shooting, with the balls arcing into the buckets under the watchful eyes of our range officers. I am sure they got as much of a workout as the racers trying to keep the ammunition ready for new arrivals at Ski School Flats. Thanks to you for keeping the race running smoothly.
There was a lot of indecision for the younger athletes about doing one long lap or two short ones, but most were convinced that tossing balls would be way more fun than slogging back up Hollyburn trail from the bottom. The start took long enough that Oliver K was almost finished his first lap before the last racer started. There are some good times for the 2 lap short with the four fastest boys within a minute of each other.
There was a bit of a change-up in the men’s 2 lap long results, possibly as a result of penalty laps, but the usual agony/smile faces came across the line. Freya led the women’s 2 lap course with more than a minute lead on Annie.
Our final race is the Team Relay, with the athletes handing their bib to their partner, and the partner putting it on so its readable. DSQ if I can’t make out the number! It is recommended you arrive early and practice the exchange. (Hint: Toss your poles early arriving at the lodge and pick them up later)
The end of season’s dinner is at the Hollyburn Lodge following the relay race. The menu is meat or veggie lasagna, cheese cake and a drink. Join the crowd for dinner followed by the draw prizes. You need to be there to win a prize!
P.S. The Winter Sale at Coast Outdoors is on for only a couple more days yet we still have a spring ski season ahead of us! Don’t miss out on some great deals…
