  1. XC Tuesday Night Race – February 27th

It was not very cold for a P’ayak cool down, and there a few very hot looking faces barrelling over the finish line. Aiden was 2 seconds faster than Matan, but he could expend that effort as he only did one lap. We will have to watch this young speedster!
Julia made a great skate showing as she cooled down from B.C. Winter Games, and Eli posted a respectable classic time after spending the weekend in Kamloops.
In the slightly less young category, David K showed us he still has it, finishing 3 seconds behind Matan but having over twice the years under his belt.
Carrington needed to brush up on classic before Nationals; looks like he has lots of oomph for Thunder Bay.

Next week is the ultra exciting biathlon event, the only one of it’s kind in Vancouver. All racers should sharpen their aim and practise calming their heart rate before taking aim at the target!

The battle was on for the fastest racer tonight, and with an interval start you never know quite where you are compared to your opponent. In this case Max and Cam fought it out to the last metre with Max winning by a finger tap. I think they both deserve a gold medal. In the “Old Guy” category, David K had a very respectable time. Our fastest female was Barb at less than a minute behind David. Bruno won the Classic category by acclamation. Maya had her fastest personal time yet, with Anne Marie leading her fairly safely around the course. (There was a bit of snow on Maya that didn’t fall off a tree!)
For our younger racers, Lucas had a very impressive performance, with Oliver hot on his heels. Anna made a great showing and big cheers to Emilie and Myka who stuck it out in the cold and completed the full loop!

    Hello racers!

Last night’s race pitted athletic prowess with finding your skis in all the fresh snow in the exchange area. A very dry snowfall helped the skate leg of the Skiathlon, with no complaints about elephant snot loading skis. Classic got a little tricky with the changing fresh snow in the tracks, though I didn’t hear of anyone having to run downhill.

Turnout was manageable this week, with only 30 racers attending, so we started fairly close to on-time. We had a good contingent of young racers again, warming their legs up before BC Champs in Kelowna this weekend. Eamon and Oliver did the short course, so their times are a bit faster than expected. Andrea was the pace-setter, but she skated both laps, so Reese wins the race as the fastest Skiathlete.

    Well done all of you!

Under fresh falling snow our hearty racers made their way around one or two laps of the standard course. This was a good turnout for the second last race. Excellent recovery from an impressive performance at the P’ayak Loppet.
