ABOUT JUSTINE
Award winning filmmaker and expedition paddler Justine Curgenven shares stories and stunning images from paddling in BC's most isolated islands. Haida Gwaii offers a remarkable blend of native culture, jagged mountain scenery, powerful ocean swells and rich wildlife. Justine first kayaked 500 miles around them in 2007 exploring the proud remains of Haida totem poles, meeting local characters and enduring yet more oatmeal for breakfast. Some things are so beautiful that they are worthing doing twice and Justine returned in 2021 and paddled around the archipelago in the opposite direction.
Justine will tell of wildlife encounters, cultural highlights, challenging ocean swells, kind locals and good humour. She’ll reflect on the different trips - one with 2 friends and one with her partner - and how the remote storm-battered land and her own goals and expectations have evolved over 15 years. This presentation shares the beauty, culture and adventure of this sought-after destination. We warn you, that you will want to visit (or return) even more after this talk.
